History and examination

A 14-year-old Chinese girl presented with skin lesions on the chest and neck for three years. The area of involvement of the lesions was noted to increase gradually, but the patient was asymptomatic. She had a good past health and there was no family history of any skin diseases. Physical examination revealed hyperpigmented plaques mainly on the lower central chest and inframammary area with minimal scaling. On the posterior neck, a slightly pigmented plaque with mild scaling was also noted (Figures 1 and 2).
