YouLaser MT fractional resurfacing using 1540 and 10600 nm mixed technology

The goals of treatment for skin rejuvenation and acne scar reduction are effective treatment, short downtime and decreased side effects. Ablative fractional laser (e.g. CO2 10600 nm laser) is very effective, but it may cause significant postinflammatory hyperpigmentation in people with dark skin. It also has a long downtime and is more prone to side effects e.g. erythema, oedema, hypopigmentation and infection. Besides, it may have less effect on acne scar reduction as compared with non-ablative laser. Non-ablative fractional laser (e.g. GaAs 1540 nm) may have less downtime, however many sessions are needed to acheive effectiveness. It may also have less effect on photoageing and the final result is not comparable with ablative technique.

The technology for mixing non-ablative and ablative fractional resurfacing has been developed. YouLaser MT has introduced mixed technology that combines 10600 nm (ablative CO2 laser) and 1540 nm (GaAs non-ablative laser) wavelengths in a sequential or simultaneous fractional emission. Discomfort during the procedure is effectively decreased by air cooling without the need for local anaesthetic. These two lasers can work separately or in exclusive mixed modality. The two wavelengths can be emitted together with positive synergy to maximise the advantages of each laser with improved results in one session with significantly less downtime for patients. YouLaser MT was found to have good therapeutic results for acne scar, hypertrophic scar, burn scar, pigmentation, facial wrinkles, red/white striae, skin rejuvenation, ablation of viral wart and rhinophyma. YouLaser MT is used for medium depth scars, skin with early photoageing only and has limited effect for advanced lesions.

Learning points:
YouLaser MT allows fractional resurfacing with mixed technology combining 10600 nm (ablative CO2 laser) and 1540 nm (GaAs non-ablative laser) wavelengths. It enables shorter downtime and lower fluence when compared with CO2 laser.
